NAIG 2027 COMMITTEE CALL OUT
2027 NORTH AMERICAN INDIGENOUS GAMES COMMITTEE MEMBER CALL OUT
Monday, October 21st, 2024
The North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) is a sporting event that welcomes thousands of Indigenous North American athletes to compete in over 15 sporting events.
The Host Society is the operational body responsible for the day-to-day organization of the 2027 NAIG within the framework established by the NAIG Council and the Indigenous Sports Council of Alberta (ISCA). We are responsible for the local implementation of the Games, including venue selection, logistics, and the integration of cultural programs. The Host Society ensures that the Games provide opportunities for local community engagement and that the event's legacy aligns with the values and aspirations of the Indigenous communities involved.
OPPORTUNITY The 2027 North American Indigenous Games Host Society is looking for leaders to support the success of the games and seeking volunteers to join the following committees:
1. Elder Advisory Committee: will provide wisdom, traditional, and spiritual knowledge guidance and ensure the respect of cultural protocols and perspectives.
2. Youth Advisory Committee: will represent the voice of Indigenous youth and inform priorities and planning from a youth perspective. Committee members will engage in outreach to encourage participation.
3. Arts & Culture Advisory Committee: will ensure the representation of Indigenous cultures, language, and history during the games. Members will oversee the planning of cultural exhibitions and performances and guide the inclusion of traditional and contemporary Indigenous arts.
4. Athlete Advisory Committee: will promote fair play and sportsmanship, advocate for the athletes' needs and interests, and advise on competition structures and athlete services.
5. Mental Health Advisory Committee: will develop mental health resources and support for participants, raise awareness of mental health issues in sports, and provide guidance on well-being initiatives.
6. Health and Safety Advisory Committee: will advise on health protocols, including injury prevention and nutrition. Members will develop safety guidelines for all aspects of the games and ensure readiness for medical emergencies and public health issues.
