Aba Wathtech / Hello, I am Îyârhe Nâkodâ from Stoney Nation in Treaty 7 Territory.
I am a seasoned post-secondary professional in a leadership role that designs and supports Indigenous student services at SAIT. I began this role in December 2022 after finishing the Master of Education program in June.
Prior to moving over to SAIT I worked for 8 years at MRU and administered the largest on campus housing program for Indigenous students at a post-secondary in Canada. I have worked on several committees for decolonization, Indigenization and reconciliation initiatives.
I have dedicated my career and have a passion in advocating for equity, diversity and inclusion of underrepresented groups and peoples with a focus on anti-racism.
I am a recipient of the City of Calgary Chief David Crowchild Memorial Award (2019) and was featured as a CTV Inspiring Albertan (2019) for acknowledgment of my leadership in Treaty 7 and the urban Indigenous community in Calgary.
I have volunteered for initiatives including: the City of Calgary Community Anti-Racism Action Strategy Working Group; Walking With Our Sisters - MMIWG2S+ Awareness, Awo Taan Healing Lodge Youth Mentorship, Community Wise - Indigenous Steering Committee and Morley 2 Spirit Pride Celebration.
